Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

TITLE: Crazy Rich Asians

AUTHOR: Kevin Kwan

RELEASE DATE: June 11, 2013

RATING: ★ ★ ★ ★

SYNOPSIS: Crazy Rich Asians is the outrageously funny debut novel about three super-rich, pedigreed Chinese families and the gossip, backbiting, and scheming that occurs when the heir to one of the most massive fortunes in Asia brings home his ABC (American-born Chinese) girlfriend to the wedding of the season.
When Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home, long drives to explore the island, and quality time with the man she might one day marry. What she doesn’t know is that Nick’s family home happens to look like a palace, that she’ll ride in more private planes than cars, and that with one of Asia’s most eligible bachelors on her arm, Rachel might as well have a target on her back. Initiated into a world of dynastic splendor beyond imagination, Rachel meets Astrid, the It Girl of Singapore society; Eddie, whose family practically lives in the pages of the Hong Kong socialite magazines; and Eleanor, Nick’s formidable mother, a woman who has very strong feelings about who her son should–and should not–marry. Uproarious, addictive, and filled with jaw-dropping opulence, Crazy Rich Asians is an insider’s look at the Asian JetSet; a perfect depiction of the clash between old money and new money; between Overseas Chinese and Mainland Chinese; and a fabulous novel about what it means to be young, in love, and gloriously, crazily rich.

MY REVIEW: Before I tell you what I didn’t like about the novel, I will tell you what I LOVED about it.
I was immediately sucked in to the DRAMA
We all Love drama.. even if its just in the mildest form.. lol
We meet families, friends, couples, and we get so entangled in each of their lives, you feel like you become entitled to know what will happen with each one of them..
My favorite character.. Astrid..
Because I definitely could relate, in the vulnerability but then realize..
“I am way too good for this!”
Rachel was my second favorite..
She knew exactly what she wanted, and fought for it..
“Good for you girl!”
So I was 75% done with the book when I watched the trailer for the movie..
I didn’t like the trailer.. I’m not sure how true to the characters these actors will be..
I think I imagined them differently in my head..
I also think it affected the way I finished the book.. views changed..
I don’t know if it was in a negative way.. just a neutral non excited way..
To be honest, I most likely will not watch the movie because sometimes they are not in sync with the novels, and I’ve yet to finish the series! So Maybe after I finish the trilogy..
Over all.. a fun, entertaining read!
I highly recommend it to those who love to read in multiple perspectives and who want a few different events happening within the storyline itself..
Yaaaay! Go out and get it today!
Also, I love the way this paperback feels and fits so nicely in my hands..

It’s the fancy paperback kind of book:)

Love, Ellie
